Winner - student art competition

Staffordshire University have held a student competition for a design of the 5 panels which will 'frame' the entrance into their new Science centre.  It will be visible from Leek road and will give people an idea of the sciences which will bring a world-class reputation to Stoke on Trent.

The winner is Thomas Wilsdon, a 2nd year student in the Arts faculty.  Thomas will be presented with his prize at the launch event in October.  He is currently working with professional designers and sign-makers to advance his design and arrange for production.  The materials will complement the building's facade and denote the global importance of the sciences.

Cre8 Radio - early summer 2012 broadcasts

Cre8 Radio 87.9 FM, an annual community radio station, delivered by community members including university staff and student volunteers, Cre8 Radio is in its fourth year of early summer broadcasts.  It is proud to be working in partnership with the Fringe Festival and with colleagues from the Burslem-based online community station 6 Towns Radio.
The station broadcasts live across Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-On-Trent on 87.9FM from studios at Staffordshire University’s Stoke campus and can also be picked up online at www.cre8radio.com. It is on-air 24 hours a day up to the close of the Fringe Festival at 18:00 on Saturday 23rd June.
This year Cre8 Radio opened on 30th May with coverage of the celebrations of the Olympic Torch arriving in Stoke-on-Trent, starting with the spectacular community parade, which was coordinated by Newcastle-based B-arts, and building to an outside broadcast live from the evening celebrations in Hanley Park.
Cre8 Radio is delighted that these partnerships with colleagues at 6 Towns Radio and the Fringe Festival are adding such breadth and diversity to the station’s celebration of the creative life of North Staffordshire.

Rising in the People and Planet Green League

Staffordshire University have achieved a First Class Honours award for environmental performance in the People and Planet Green League 2012 ranking. People & Planet’s Green League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is compiled annually by the UK’s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.
